Evergreen Solar Panels Powers Solar System at Carlson Orchards

Evergreen Solar, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of solar power products in its proprietary STRING RIBBON brand name with its cost-effective silicon wafer production technology.

The company has announced that a ground-mounted solar installation with a capacity of 220 kW has started operation at Carlson Orchards, Inc., a nectarine, peach and apple orchard situated in an area of 120 acres. The orchard also produces apple cider in excess of 500,000 gallons annually. The array was built utilizing ES-A Series STRING RIBBON solar panels of Evergreen Solar. The array comprises 1,050 ES-A-210W panels of Evergreen Solar.

By powering two refrigeration buildings as well as the cider press of the orchard, the solar array system will be able to supply two-thirds of the total electricity requirements at the orchard. Over 20 years, the system will be able to generate in excess of 5 million kWh of electricity while eliminating CO2 to the extent of 3,700 metric tons from the atmosphere annually.

Carlson Orchards, in order to accommodate the solar arrays, had consciously made the decision of removing two acres of apple trees, thus, displaying its commitment towards incorporating renewable power resources towards meeting the company’s electricity demands..
