NV Energy Proposes Biomass Facility in Kings Beach

NV Energy, in partnership with Placer County, intends to build a 1 – 3 MW biomass energy plant, either in the 1.3-acre Kings Beach site or in the 9.6-acre Tahoe City site in California.

This proposal has resulted in restless reactions from the residents of Kings Beach upon the possibility of this biomass project slated for construction at the city’s upper grid area.

Fuel for the plants would be screened and ground at off-site locations. The project manager of Placer County Brett Storey has opined that the project is still under the infancy stages and much needs to be done towards the commissioning of this biomass project.

Biomass is an organic material that is derived typically from plant matter. Biomass is based on carbon and has its composition from an organic molecules mixture that contains hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, heavy metals and alkaline earth. Typically, a biomass plant has the capacity to convert biomass materials into heat or electricity.
