SUPERVALU Collaborates with WWF for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

SUPERVALU has collaborated with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) towards reducing the global greenhouse gas emissions by a margin of 10% by 2012-end, keeping 2007 as the baseline year. SEPERVALU’s initiative is equivalent to eliminating electricity usage from approximately 352,000 average homes in the U.S. for a period of one year.

This partnership goes on to make SUPERVALU as the pioneer traditional grocer, and also the pioneer major retailer for joining the Climate Savers Program of WWF that reflects the company’s commitment towards the environment. SUPERVALU’s leadership in voluntarily reducing greenhouse gas emissions sets an example for other establishments in the industry to follow suit. By 2010 end, the Climate Savers Program aims at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50 million tons, as per estimates.

SUPERVALU totally understands energy efficiency values in terms of saving costs as well as reducing the overall impact on the climate. Towards accomplishing its goals, the company will convert its store lighting from the traditional fluorescent lamps to LED lighting designs, improve refrigeration efficiencies as well as integrate fleet transportation plans.
