Gree Electric Appliances announced that it has sold approximately 50,000 solar-powered air conditioners in 2010 in the US. Accordingly, the company has planned to expand its exports activities to the US and will also focus on developing self-owned brands of air conditioners.
At present, the company sells the self-branded solar air conditioners in South America, Southeast Asia, Middle East and South Africa. Gree Electric Appliances also exports OEM solar-powered air conditioners to Europe, North America and Japan.
According to Sun Yat-Sen University’s Institute for Solar Energy Systems Chairman, Shen Hui, the total market for solar-powered air conditioners may reach CNY 100 billion by the year 2015.
