According to Ahmed Kamal, IICT’s incharge-director, the institute has already constructed a biomass plant that can utilize any type of feedstock for extracting biodiesel at the rate of 10 liter per hour. The institute is looking for partners to transfer the technology to enable its large scale production. It is also engaged in finding a suitable technology to add value to the production of biodiesel from pongamia, a known biodiesel plant. The institute has designs to utilize the oil cake as  bio-pesticide for the production of mosquito repellent and in producing detergents. Another byproduct of the biodiesel manufacture is Glycerol.

The institute is currently in partnership with the International Crop Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics in producing bioethanol from sorghum. While the cereal of the plant is utilized for eating, the other parts of the plant are employed in the production of bioethanol. The technology provided by the institute is utilized during fermentation part in producing bioethanol. The institute is also engaged in producing organic solar cells.
