SDE Receives Official Sanction for Wave Power Generation Plant in Kenya

SDE Energy declared that it has received official sanction from the Kenyan Ministry of Energy for installing a 100 MW power plant on the coastline of Kenya. The company will install the power plant with the assistance of Sea Wave Gen, a local company.

The 100 MW wave power plant will be erected on the Kenyan shore and will generate power at a production cost of $0.02 per 1KW and the power will be sold to KPLC, a local electric company at the rate of $0.08 per 1KW. SDE will install the ground-breaking type of plant, which will be unique and generate energy cost-efficiently. The cost of construction of the plant for 1 MW power generation is comparatively cheaper than other renewable power production sources. The 1 MW wave power generation plant costs around $650,000, in comparison with the cost of $1,500,000 for wind power, $3,000,000 for solar energy, $900,000 for gas and $1,500,000 for coal. Similarly, the offered rate of 2 cents per kW is much lower than that of 12 cents for solar, 3 cents for coal, 3.6 cents for wind power and 3.5 cents for gas.

The new plant formulated by SDE has the capability to provide 500 times more power than the prevailing global wave energy intake. The company owns the patent for its plant and a number of its patents are undergoing registration process. In all, the company has constructed nine wave power plants and each of the plant was funded by the Israeli Government.
