Performance Services, an US- based design and building engineering company will be the design builder for the wind turbine project of West Central School Corporation (WCSC). This project is part of the Feed-in Tariff program offered by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), which is aimed at creating renewable energy.
For the wind turbine project, Performance Services will design and build a three blade PowerWind turbine, which will measure 321 ft in height and will have a capacity of 900kW. The turbine will be built in the school campus and is expected to reduce energy costs for the school. The self sustaining project will run for 25 years and is likely to generate revenues of more than $2.9 million after all costs relating to the project are taken into account. NIPSCO aims to retain the tax rate on this project.
As part of the wind turbine project, students of WCSC will have the opportunity to study renewable energy in their curriculum. K-12 students will have lesson plans and a K-12 curriculum map as part of this system. According to Tim Thoman, President, Performance Services, this project offers a very good opportunity to WCSC students to integrate this project into their curriculum and in turn contribute towards the funding of the school and encouraging sustainable efforts in the society.
