Evolution Solar Supports Solar Hot Water Act

A new bill nicknamed “10 Million Solar Roofs and 10 Million Gallons of Solar Hot Water Act” filed by Bernie Sanders has drawn support from Evolution Solar Corp. Up to 50% of the cost of new solar systems would be provided as rebate under the proposed Act, similar to incentive programs that are currently in New Jersey and California. The objective of the bill is to install 200, 000 solar heaters and 10 million solar roofs totaling 30,000 MW over during the next 10 years.

Robert Hines, president of Evolution Solar, said the company supports the solar initiative, which will create green jobs as well as to help the nation’s future. Solar installations will become significantly attractive with the tax breaks proposed in the bill, particularly considering the fact that prices of photovoltaic cells are falling. Just like solar roof projects, distributed solar projects can also be connected to the grid.

Currently, Evolution Solar is partnership with Texas Southern University for developing a site for a solar demonstration project. The solar demonstration installation, to be sited at Texas Southern University’s campus at Houston, will help the company to compete with larger players such as Trina Solar, First Solar, SunPower, and Suntech Power.
