LG Electronics Inc. has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with three certification authorities CSA International, Intertek and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) for promoting trustworthy methods to test the energy efficiency levels of home appliances and consumer electronics products around the world.
The three certification authorities will test LG products to make sure it conforms to energy efficiency standards and appropriate government requirements. The products from the factories of LG around the world will be inspected and tested in nine different categories, including air conditioners, TVs, washing machines and refrigerators. Gradually, the whole of LG’s products will be tested. The energy efficiency tests will be conducted throughout Europe, Asia and North America.
The CEO and Vice Chairman of LG Electronics Yong Nam stated that by independently verifying the energy efficiency of products, the company indicates its commitment to conserve energy.
The MOU was signed by top management executives from each of the participating organizations at LG’s office in Seoul: CEO of LG Nam; CTO and President of LG Electronics Woo Paik; Global CEO at UL Keith E. Williams; Global CEO at Intertek Commercial & Electrical Gregg Tiemann; and Global CEO at CSA Group Ash Sahi.
The three authorities will evaluate the progress of LG in the LG Electronics Energy Assurance Program (LEAP) that focuses on improving energy efficiency of manufacturing processes and ensuring reliable energy performance.
The authorities are recognized entities in the world in their respective fields:
UL provides the Environmental Claims Validation service for the purpose of validating and testing the environmental claims of manufacturers; Intertek provides quality safety solutions for a numerous industries; CSA International provides product certification and testing services for mechanical, gas, plumbing and electrical products among others.
