Daimler and RWE to Open Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for the Smart Electrodrive Electronic Car

In this video report from Joanna Partridge from Reuters, she introduces the new electric version of the Smart minicar, the Smart Electrodrive.

Additionally the producer of the Smart Electrodrive, car maker Daimler and utility company RWE plan to open recharging stations for electric autos in Berlin from the end of 2009. Initially the Smart Electrodrive will only be produced in limited numbers. The Smart Electrodrive runs on lithium-ion batteries, which can be "refuelled" at around 500 recharging stations.

Environmental group Greenpiece adds to the report with claims that electric vehicles still have a way to go before they become really environmentally-friendly.
