Alcoa’s Kawneer Business Launches Make an Impact Environmental Program

Alcoa’s Kawneer business and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change have joined together in order to launch an environmental program called “Make an Impact”. This program focuses in enabling individuals to reduce their energy costs and control their carbon footprint ratio.

This program was primarily launched for the families of the employees working at Alcoa. Community members, glaziers, customers, architects and construction industry and building stakeholders from all over North America have been invited by Kawneer to participate in the “Make an Impact” program. Kawneer is a top rated manufacturer of systems and building products from architectural aluminum that is used in commercial construction sites. Kawneer is also the first Alcoa business to launch the “Make an Impact” environmental program in North America.

“Make an Impact” includes an exclusive outreach program through the organization of communicative workshops. It also consists of a custom-built carbon calculator that helps in analyzing individual footprint and provides planning for personalized action. “Make an Impact” will also include an interactive website with resources, tools and tips providing information on how to use energy efficiently and thus reducing  electricity bills.

Eileen Claussen, President of Pew Center remarked that changes in the usage of energy can be brought about not only by the government and business firms but also by the effort taken by each individual. The partnership between the PEW Center and the Alcoa Foundation according to Claussen, aims in fulfilling the goals of the environmental program “Make an Impact”.

“Make an Impact” will be introduced in the year 2010 in Kawneer’s North American regions. This program will continue to build on the success of another program that was developed in the year 2006 at Australia. This program was launched through the partnership shared between the Alcoa Foundation and Greening Australia.

Kawneer provides photovoltaic and sun control products that are used in various construction projects in order to conserve energy, increase thermal efficiency, reduce solar heat gain and create on-site renewable energy by capturing and converting sunlight into electricity. Kawneer through programs like “Make an Impact” aims in projecting its commitment in bringing about climate changes at a global level.
