The declaration of additional tax credits worth $5 billion by the Obama Administration for the manufacturing renewable energy products locally has won praise from United Steelworkers (USW), the largest industrial union in the US.
Commending the government support, International President of USW, Leo W. Gerard, said that the initiative would boost economic growth as well as clean job opportunities in the US and, in addition, encourage alternative energy manufacturers.
The USW in recent times has expressed concerns on projects such as the Texas Wind Energy Project, which revealed a significant requirement for capacity upgradation for maintaining the position of the US as a world leader in clean energy technologies. . According to the USW, the expansion of renewable and alternative power generation must be accompanied with the expansion of capacity to produce renewable power generation equipment, and the government support is capable of achieving this objective.
