Tom Fry, President of the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) made a statement with reference to the final review from the Interior Department on the Cape Wind project in Nantucket Sound. Fry begins his statement by referring to the multiple reviews and legal challenges that delayed the final permitting decision of the long-planned and complex Cape Wind project in Nantucket Sound.
Aligning with the majority of American public and the Obama Administration, the National Ocean Industries Association supports the development of offshore renewable energy sources. The development of renewable energy on the Outer Continental Shelf will contribute to the nation’s total diversity of energy sources and it will also lead to the creation of fresh jobs in a developing sector.
Fry states that the National Ocean Industries Association is hoping that the concerned parties will agree to the final decision made by Ken Salazar, the Interior Secretary. This indeed will give way for further development of the project.
Tom Fry concluded his statement by referring to the Cape Wind project as the first offshore wind farm recommended in federal waters that will help in motivating the development of other such similar projects. Fry states that this decision is not just concerned with one project and that it also indicates the permitting environment that will be faced by the whole renewable energy sector as it expands. This decision is expected to be used by the Secretary to set a positive example.
