GGPC (Global Green Power Corporation) has shown interest in constructing a biomass power plant facility in the province of Negros Occidental in Philippines. As the province is faced with power shortage, the biomass power plant would become a green solution since certain sectors are opposed towards building a coal-fired plant.
GGPC is interested in building the biomass power plant towards producing renewable energy that is environmentally sound, by using agricultural waste. GGPC’s proposed plant in Negros Occidental will make use of waste derived from rice, corn and sugarcane as fuel.
The plant is anticipated to be completed in two years time and will produce 35 MW of power initially. Based on the success, the plant’s capacity could be expanded by an additional 35 MW in the future. The Negros Occidental province has a fast growth rate in terms of power consumption.
