Detroit Edison Starts Monroe County Solar Energy Project

Detroit Edison is planning a massive solar energy project in the Monroe County Community College Campus. The work on the $3 million solar panel installation began on Monday.

The initiative is part of a plan to install photovoltaic systems on the rooftops of customers.

Irene Dimitry the Director of Renewable Energy said that this was part of the Detroit Edision’s Solar Currents program. The campus located about 35 miles southwest of Detroit is the first educational institution which is participating in the program.

According to Dimitry the total program is about 1,200 megawatts and this will be about 15 megawatts. It may not be a large piece as per her but it was a pilot to learn about. She called it leading edge technology and thinks that it would be important to the company portfolio in the future.
