Chevron Energy Solutions Completes Solar Project for San Dieguito Union High School District

Chevron Energy Solutions, a company that formulates and constructs renewable energy projects, declared that it has completed the installation of a 2 MW solar power project for the San Dieguito Union High School District.

The solar panels placed over the parking lot of the school district provide clean solar energy as well as offer shading to the cars parked underneath it. The California Center for Sustainable Energy has helped the school district in the solar installation and in planning the energy strategy of the school district. The solar project has received over $4.7 million as discount from the California Solar Initiative and in the form of other finances from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The solar project will generate enough power to meet nearly 70% of the electric power needed by the Canyon Crest Academy and La Costa Canyon High School. The school district is anticipated to save over $10 million towards utility energy payments during the lifetime of the solar project. The power generated by the solar installation will generate enough clean energy to offset nearly 2,200 metric tons of Carbon dioxide emissions, which can be equated to the removal of over 400 cars from plying on the road.
