DuPont’s New PV Metallization Paste to Increase Solar Cell Efficiency

DuPont, a creator of sustainable solutions has introduced the SolametPV701 photovoltaic metallization paste. The paste has been developed to deliver conversion efficiency greater than 0.4 % in Metal Wrap Through (MWT) technology cell designs.

DuPont’s photovoltaic metallization paste, Solamet® PV701

DuPont Microcircuit Materials (MCM) has developed the SolametPV701 pastes for silicon solar designs that are interconnected on the back side. The PV701 paste is used for p-contact metallization in the tabbing interconnects on the cell’s back side. The Metal Wrap Through technology features a special type of cell structure where the front side bus bars are transferred to the backside of the cell. This type of structure will reduce shading that may occur on the cell’s front side. The Solamet PV701 paste provides high-line conductivity and has low shunting properties. It also enables good solderability, providing effective electrical contact from the back side to the silver grid structures on the front side.

DuPont’s achievement of the 0.4% greater conversion efficiency is a step in the direction to achieve the industry goal of over 20% by 2012 for crystalline silicon solar cells.
