The Changi Business Park-located district cooling system (DCS) plant of Keppel DHCS has received the Solar Pioneer Award given by the Energy Innovation Programme Office (EIPO) and coordinated by the Energy Market Authority and the Singapore Economic Development Board. The award presented for the third year has been given to Keppel DHCS in recognition of its contribution to a sustainable future.
The plant is being expanded presently and is anticipated to get completed in the second half of 2012 and the expanded area of the construction will incorporate one of the largest solar PV installations in Singapore. The system planned over 5,000 sq.m will have 550 kW peak power capacity and generate around 50,000 kWh of renewable energy every month, enough meet the power requirements of around 125 four room HDB flats in Singapore. The project, expected to cost around $3 million is supported by the Solar Capability Scheme of EIPO and will enable the company to save on its electricity. The installation will also function as a commercial test-bed for integrating solar energy in construction technologies.
Keppel DHCS has initiated the expansion of its cooling plant at Changi Business Park to augment the capacity of the plant to 17,500 RT by increasing the capacity by 4,500 RT. The planned development will enable the company to offer its water-cooled air-conditioning systems to a number of business establishments in Changi Business Park, thus contributing to energy savings.
