Solar Frontier to Supply CIS Solar Modules for Catalina Solar Project

Solar Frontier and enXco have declared that a module supply agreement has been signed for up to 150 MWp of CIS solar modules of Solar Frontier. A 26 MWp firm order was completed and supplied in Q4 of 2011 for the Kern County, California-based Catalina Solar Project. When the project is completed, it will be the largest CI(G)S installation in the world and will be among the largest solar installations established worldwide.

The plant will be constructed in two phases, the 60 MWp first phase will go online by 2012 end and the rest of the project will be completed by June 2013. The plant will produce clean energy to provide power to around 35,000 homes every year and nearly 74,000 t of greenhouse gas emissions will be offset each year.

According to Gregory W. Ashley, CEO of Solar Frontier Americas, this is an important moment not just for the company but also for the CI(G)S industry. He said that the company has successfully shown that the exclusive features of CIS technology are highly attractive since they offer more KWh over the project lifetime for a lesser cost. He also added that this project will help them lead to greater achievements in the days to come, both in the US and worldwide. The company is pleased to collaborate with enXco as they have shown excellent dedication to the industry by constructing and developing utility-scale solar projects.

Vice President of enXco’s Solar Business Unit, Kristina Peterson stated that they are elated to use the thin film technology of Solar Frontier. She added that Solar Frontier and its parent company Showa Shell Sekiyu have established themselves in this industry and can deliver according to customers’ requirements especially for a project of this scale.
