Laidlaw Berlin BioPower has made an announcement that it has received a confirmation for the currently available interconnection capacity on the local transmission system. This confirmation was issued by ISO- New England, which is considered as an entity that is powered with an oversight of the local power grid that was responsible in conducting an “Interconnection Feasibility Study”. This development resulted in an improvement in Laidlaw’s 66 megawatt biomass-energy facility.
An estimated cost of less than $1 million and minimum upgrades will help in connecting Laidlaw’s Berlin BioPower facility to the transmission system. The currently available projects that are in development stages and those that already exist in the ISO-New England queue are taken into consideration by the interconnection study.
Michael Bartoszek, President and CEO of Laidlaw, remarked that the company is satisfied with the results of the study as it lays emphasis on the availability of sufficient capacity on the system that can be used for a number of renewable energy projects.
