Kyocera Solar Modules to Power Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Turkey

Kyocera Corporation declared that it has assisted the Armenian Cathedral of the Holy Cross situated on  the Island of Akdamar, Turkey, to utilize solar power.

The solar modules provided by the company will illuminate the church during the evenings all through the year. The Church, which was used as a museum has started its prayer services nearly after a period of 90 years after taking the necessary permission from the government.

The solar modules required for the installation were provided by KYOCERA Fine ceramics and installed by Ezinc, a Turkish company. The installation consists of around 145 solar modules to offer annual average power supply of 25,000 kWh. The Province Van in Turkey, which includes the island of Akdamar, stands third in receiving sun energy among all the other provinces. The cool island climate and the ideal installation location is expected to offer sufficient solar power generation.

Earlier to the installation of this solar power system, the church was utilizing a diesel generator to illuminate the church. The church was spending as high as €25,000  every year for the purpose. The church is expected to get quicker returns on its spending for solar installation in a relatively shorter period.
