University of Delaware Goes Solar

The University of Delaware already has the distinction of housing the oldest solar laboratory in the nation. Now it is starting a new initiative to install solar panels on the rooftops of the buildings on the campus.

The completion of the solar panel installation will bring an annual saving of $30,000 in energy costs. This would be the largest solar powered energy generator in the state. It will also give a major boost to eco-friendly energy movements spread across the state.

The University has to foot a bill of $90,000 to improve the rooftops of the buildings on campus, while the price of the panels and the installation will be borne by Standard Solar. In return the university will buy energy from them at a discounted rate making the project a ‘win-win’ situation for both the university and the solar power generating company.

Other educational institutes around the country are waking up to the possibility of solar power and many have similar projects in the pipeline.
