Astronergy Unveils Plans to Build Single-building PV System

Astronergy, a company engaged in solar research and production of solar modules, has declared its intentions to build the largest single-building PV system in the world, a grid linked 10 MW solar power system incorporated into the new Hangzhou East Railway Station.

Around 8.2 MW power installation of this project is covered under the Golden Sun Program (2010) of the government and the rest of the 1.8 MW is regarded as a part of National Solar Photovoltaic Building Demonstration Projects.

The Railway station situated in East Hangzhou will incorporate all the latest and current transport technologies and will function as a major center for buses, high-speed rail, taxis and all other varieties of transportation. The proposed photovoltaic project will incorporate the grid linked power production into the infrastructure of the construction and will utilize the roofs, surfaces of the building and other available surfaces for the installation of the panels. The solar panels to be placed over an area of 148,000 m2 with an investment of around RMB 270 million will generate around 9,818,600 kWh of power every year. The system when commissioned is expected to substitute the use of nearly 3,277 tons of coal, will reduce the carbon dioxide discharges by 8,095 tons, the discharge of sulfur dioxide releases by 66 tons and other polluting gases by 32 tons.

The transport center expected to be functional by the end of 2011 will have over 75 million trips every year. The project is anticipated to become one of the noted low carbon generating projects for the City of Hangzhou and is expected to remain as an example for the other solar PV projects all over the country.
