BTU Enters into Licensing Agreement with DuPont for their Catalytic Oxidation Technology

BTU International has declared that it has signed a global licensing agreement with DuPont Packaging Graphics for using the catalytic oxidation technology developed by DuPont for reducing the usage of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

This technology is much more energy-efficient than the thermal oxidation process and also facilitates lower manufacturing expenses. This method when incorporated into the BTU Tritan metallization firing system would offer lower ownership costs and thus lower cost per watt for the solar cells.

Jan-Paul van Maaren, the Vice President of marketing at BTU, stated that they were eager to include DuPont’s cutting edge technology with their Tritan metallization firing furnace. The VOCs Catalytic oxidation would considerably reduce the power consumed when compared to the traditional thermal oxidation process. This would not only affect the overall cost of the tool and thereby the cost per watt but also would prove to be a better effluent management method for the solar customers.

DuPont Packaging Graphics’ Global Technology Manager, Dalen Keys revealed that this technology was created for the flexographic printing systems of DuPont and its track record indicates that it was very successful with 150 units being installed. He further mentioned that they were happy to provide the technology for the benefit of BTU and the overall solar energy industry and thus prove their commitment to greater sustainability and innovations. BTU has more than 370 employees and has their headquarters in N Billerica in Massachusetts.
