Southern Energy Management (SEM) has declared that it is enabling the Greensboro Fire Department to go green with solar thermal water heating systems. The solar installations form a part of the clean energy initiatives of the Greensboro city.
The city recently has brought out a Sustainability Action Plan to further support its allegiance to green energy implementation.
Southern Energy Management has completed the solar thermal installations for the six existing fire department buildings and will install two more systems at two new stations that are under construction. SEM has utilized the services of Pepco Energy for completing the solar thermal installations at 2, 5, 17, 21 and 43 Fire Stations and over the Public Safety Training Facility, which is being shared by the police department and the fire department. Each such completed installation includes a required number of solar thermal collectors to pre-heat the water before transferring it to the existing hot water storage tanks thus reducing their dependence on natural gas or electric power to produce hot water.
SEM has earlier completed the installation of solar thermal water heating systems for a number of municipal and public customers such as Western Carolina University, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Department of Transportation, the City of Raleigh and others.
