Fifth IPCC Report to Include inventoried Details on Compounds Present in Atmospheric Emissions

An International partnership with participation of researchers from the Laboratoire d'Aérologie (CNRS/Université Paul Sabatier) and Laboratoire "Atmosphères, Milieux, Observations Spatiales" (CNRS/UPMC/UVSQ) have recently prepared an itemized record of particulate compounds, reactive gaseous and major greenhouse gases.

Preparation of such measurement has assisted researchers to suggest new backdrops for use in the 5th IPCC report for future climatic simulations due to be released in 2013. The research work received support from ADEME and CNES and CNRS and is brought out in a special publication of the journal Climate Change.

In the performed process, the researchers initially honed the estimates of the major greenhouse gas discharges, quick responsive chemical compounds such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides and other particles from the atmosphere of the earth for the period 1850-2300. In the research, being organized by Catherine Liousse and Claire Granier researchers from CNRS, the researchers from the French teams assumed extra interest in the discharges that are results of biomass combustion and human activity.

The researchers by utilizing the itemized records have instituted new scenarios unfolding a wide range of likely futures that form the main reasons of climate change being land use, atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gases. The suggested scenarios will be incorporated in the future climatic simulations by a majority of the climate modelers. The advancements made will be utilized to draw the blueprint of the next IPCC report that is due for publication in 2013. The collected inputs have the potential to assess the costs and benefits of the conclusions arrived at regarding climate policies.

ADEME and CNES and CNRS, the two French teams have designed a database ECCAD (Emissions of Atmospheric Compounds & Compilation of Ancillary Data), which is made available for the consultation of the scientific community online.
