A new office in Boston was opened by Northern Power Systems. The office will operate as its engineering and commercial center to cater to its wind business throughout the world. Northern Power Systems is a developer of next-generation wind turbines.
Northern Power Systems’ innovative wind turbine technology is based on a simplified architecture that uses a combination of a direct-drive design and a permanent magnet generator. This next-generation technology provides higher energy capture, reduces downtime as well as maintenance costs substantially and wipes out drive-train noise. Northwind100 turbine is being currently manufactured by the company. This turbine is specifically designed for wind applications such as municipalities, schools, businesses, universities, and commercial farms. To serve the utility-scale wind energy market, the company is planning to introduce a 2.2-MW turbine later this year.
John P. Danner, President and CEO of Northern Power Systems, said that Boston is an ideal place for the company to expand its business, since it is a leading innovation center for green technology. Danner commented that by utilizing the area’s extraordinary talent and by accessing world famous research institutions, the company is looking forward to develop its technological leadership in the industry.
Northwind 100 community scale turbines have been installed by the company throughout the world. The company has installed five Northwind 100 turbines in Massachusetts that are in operation at a commercial garden center, the Wood's Hole Research Center, two schools, and a convent.
