SBM Solar Receives UL Certification for Non-Glass, Rigid, C-Si Solar Panels

By attaining UL certification on their non-glass, rigid, C-Si Solar Panels, SBM Solar has become the only company in the world to achieve this feat. SBM Solar is the leader in the development and manufacture of non-glass solar products for various applications such as traditional roofing, portable military, marine, building integrated photovoltaic and disaster relief.

SBM Solar founder and President, Dr. Osbert Cheung, said the company’s 140W solar panel withstood rigorous UL1703 testing for four years. Cheung commented that this approval in addition to IEC61215 certification underscored SBM Solar’s commitment to safety and quality. Encapsulation of the non-glass PV modules by using non-EVA based thermoplastic material enables the company to produce the panels three times faster than the glass modules while maintaining high quality, Cheung added.

Non-glass PV modules manufactured by SBM solar are lighter than glass by 40% allowing for easy transportation and handling. It is most suitable for applications where less weight is an important factor. Since the modules are shatterproof, strong and durable, it can withstand high winds, hails, rain and lightning. The other features include: customizable for size, shape and color; non-reflective and non-glare and fitted with C-Si solar cells for more efficiency.
