Linx-AEI Predicts Rapid Growth in the Market for Chemicals and Materials for PV Cells and Modules

In the third edition of the report on Chemicals & Materials for Photovoltaic Cells and Modules 2010, Linx-AEI Consulting has projected rapid growth in the materials and chemicals used in photovoltaic solar modules and cells.

New industry analysis by the company foresees a 27% increase in the market for advanced materials and chemicals. The report estimates a $3.1 billion increase in 2010, with expectations of a rise of $15 billion by 2015. The analysis is based on rising materials requirements in the production of solar cells and modules, driven by a rise in the global demand for photovoltaics, which is expected to climb from 5.8 GW to 38 GW by 2015.

Included in the report are cell type long-term forecasts, projected after combining the company perception of levelized cost of energy with an analysis of the effect irradiance and local incentives offered to promote alternate energy resources. Detailed insights into the need for chemicals for individual cells and modules for tandem-junction, amorphous and crystalline silicon, CdTe and CI(G)S.

The opportunities available in the market for PV cells and modules, driven by substantial growth in volumes, are also outlined in the report.  In addition, analysis on critical technologies and their impact on metallization, texturization and cleaning, selective emitters, encapsulants, backsheets and frontsheets is also included.
