Sprint and Samsung Telecommunications America Introduce Samsung Restore

Wireline and wireless communications services provider Sprint and mobile phone provider Samsung Telecommunications America have introduced their Samsung Restore, a ‘green’ phone. This environmentally friendly phone features the customizable user interface Sprint One Click.

The previously launched Samsung Reclaim phone, made from bio-plastic materials, recently won the Best of Green: Best New Cell Phone Award from TreeHugger.com.

Some of the features of Samsung Restore include QWERTY keyboard equipped with optical joystick, camcorder and 2.0 MP camera, Stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, MP3 player, access to Sprint Football Live, Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation and Sprint Family Locator.

Some of the environmentally friendly features of the phone include the following: the outer casing has 27% post-consumer recycled plastic; the entire phone is 84% recyclable; the phone complies with RoHS standards; the device uses an energy-efficient Energy Star Version 2.0 qualified charger; and the packaging for the phone is completely recyclable.

The commitment of Samsung Telecommunications America to the environment is not just limited to phones. The company offers Energy Star rated power adapters meant for mobile accessories and phones. Moreover, Samsung Telecommunications America has partnered with the “Plug-In To eCycling” National Cell Phone Recycling Week of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for collecting and recycling cell phones by means of existing sponsorships and programs.

By means of its March to a Million program, Samsung Telecommunications America intends to collect and recycle 1 million cell phones in 2010.

Sprint is also known for its effort to make the environment friendlier. For instance, Sprint Eco-Criteria supports the ‘green’ product development goal of the company and evaluates the characteristics of a device in terms of sustainable packaging, eco-innovation, eco-applications, lifecycle management, energy efficiency and usage of environmentally sensitive materials.
