Power Shift Atlantic to Assist Maritime Province Utilities with Wind Energy Usage Research

A group of power producing companies located in Canada’s Maritime Provinces has decided to examine the power usage practices of its clients to enable them to make use of wind energy more resourcefully.

This has become necessary due to a recent news report from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, calling wind power production as unpredictable in comparison with power resources that employ carbon fuel. The report also has stated that unlike wind power the electricity produced using carbon fuel is available all the time and as demanded.

Power Shift Atlantic has launched a $32 million research project on behalf of the power producing companies to unearth the energy consumption pattern of the consumers. The research company is in the process of recruiting around 2,000 consumers from residential and business segments as volunteers to participate in the pilot project. The research is aimed at understanding the energy consumption practices of the clients and usage patterns of equipments such as air-conditioning or refrigeration or some other process related usage. Further the research is devising means to leverage the usage of such equipments and process patterns linking them with the availability of wind power production.

Meanwhile, researchers at the University of New Brunswick have taken an exploratory study about the wind blowing pattern of the region to understand the peak wind times to advise the clients to plan their utility usage. The project is aimed at providing power to the clients with least inconvenience.
