Solazyme to Supply Algae Biofuel to U.S. Navy

Solazyme is geared up for supplying algae biofuel for the U.S. Navy. The U.S. Navy is currently pouring funds into this environmentally-friendly algae biofuel for usage on board its aircrafts and ships. Solazyme’s technology has its focus on the production of domestic, abundant as well as renewable source for fuels and oils.

Solazyme has recently inked its third agreement with the military for providing algae-based biofuels to the extent of 150,000 gallons by the year 2011. Solazyme has already delivered approximately 20,000 gallons to the U.S. Navy so far.

Solazyme will also be performing additional research as well as development towards making use of its technology platform for renewable oil production. The Soladiesel Renewable Naval Distillate biofuel of Solazyme can serve as a significant part of the long-term strategy of the Navy towards achieving 50% of its energy needs from renewable sources by the year 2020. Reducing the dependence upon foreign oil has become a significant part of the national security imperatives.
