Vattenfall has declared that it will invest over $1.38 billion in the proposed DanTysk offshore project which is expected to come up in the North Sea and will be located 40 miles west of Sylt, a German Island.
The company will construct the wind farm and maintain its operating functions. Vattenfall will invest to hold 51% of the shares while Stadtwerke München, a German company, will have the balance 49% of shares. During last month the company has completed 300 MW off the UK shore.
The proposed DanTysk offshore wind farm will have around 288 MW of power production capability to provide electric power to 500,000 houses with an average power consumption of 2,500 kWh. The proposed offshore wind turbine project will comprise 80 wind turbines installed in a water depth up to 100 feet. The construction of the project is expected to commence in 2012 and is anticipated to get completed in the first phase of 2014.
Germany as a country is leading the offshore wind farm and inland wind farm installations. The country is said to have an installed capability to produce 25,777 MW power and 38 billion kWh at the conclusion of last year. The country has commissioned its Baltic 1 offshore wind farm with 21 wind turbines last month.
