Siemens, a leading provider of wind farms in the UK, declared it is setting up its offshore wind turbine production plant in Hull.
It has signed a memorandum of understanding with Associated British Ports, an agency, which manages the Yorkshire port to build the wind turbine plant at Alexandra Dock. The news has come as an encouragement to the UK investors who are waiting for the government’s announcement on renewable energy subsidy.
The proposed Hull plant will produce wind turbines that stand nearly 150 meters in height and have capabilities to generate up to 6 MW power. The project, which is anticipated to get finalized in a few months time will position the UK in a leading position in wind power expertise. The city council of Hull expects that the project will generate around 10,000 direct and indirect job positions to the city.
Siemens has chosen Green Port Hull located at Alexandra Dock for its wind plant due to its easy access from the road as well as for its deepwater moorage facility. The prevailing harbor facility can be reconstructed to assist the export of wind turbines produced at the dock. The company is planning to enter into a development process with the port that will assist the factory in constructing and delivering wind turbines.
