David Brown to Construct Advanced Wind Turbines for NGenTec

NGenTec, a spinout from the University of Edinburgh, declared that it has entered into a business accord with Clyde Blowers, a Glasgow-based company.

The accord will allow David Brown, an auxiliary company of Clyde Blowers, to produce, assemble and test the prototype of NGenTec’s 1 MW C-GEN direct drive wind turbine at its headquarters located in Huddersfield. The value of the deal is not disclosed.

The terms of signed accord will entitle David Brown to obtain equity in NGenTec for offering its know-how. After completing the installation of 1MW C-GEN by the next year NGenTec has the choice to retain the same producer to construct a full-sized 6 MW demo wind turbine by 2012, to enable it to begin marketing it by the year 2014. The company ultimately is looking forward to utilizing the same technology to construct a wind turbine to generate 10 MW power.

According to Derek Shepherd, the founder of NGEnTec and its acting Chief Executive, the partnership will reinforce the position of the company in the fast growing wind energy market. He added that the collaboration will make  NGenTec as an important supplier in the wind energy market that is anticipated to reach £70bn level in a period of 10 years.
