Suzlon Energy Signs Repeat Orders with ITC for the Development of Two Wind Power Projects

Suzlon Energy, the third largest wind turbine maker in the world, has signed repeat orders with ITC for setting up, operating and maintaining two wind power projects in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The project in Maharashtra will add 6 megawatt of capacity from four units of Suzlon’s S-82 1.5 megawatt turbine and the Karnataka project will add 21 megawatt of capacity from ten units of Suzlon’s S88 – 2.1 megawatt turbine.

The repeat orders signed by ITC will help in increasing ITC’s wind portfolio to 47.1 megawatt. Suzlon had also commissioned a few earlier projects in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra for ITC. These earlier projects were set up through the concept-to-commissioning solution model.

I.C. Mangal, President – Business Development (India), Suzlon Energy, remarked that the company is proud of ITC’s confidence in Suzlon Energy to provide profitable and sustainable wind power solution. These repeat orders, according to Mangal, emphasize the value proposition of Suzlon to its customers and highlights ITC’s experience with Suzlon’s current projects. Suzlon Energy is interested in continuing its partnership with ITC in order to carry out the organizational goals on sustainability developed by ITC.

Snajiv Puri, Divisional Chief Executive, Tobacco Division – ITC, remarked that the agreement with Suzlon Energy to develop two wind power projects is part of ITC’s goal to increase the use of renewable energy sources and to carry out a low-carbon high-growth strategy. At present, ITC consumes more than 30 percent of energy generated from renewable sources and an increase of 50 percent is expected in the future. This achievement will enable ITC to consolidate its carbon-positive status.

The end-to-end solutions developed by Suzlon Energy have stimulated the growth in the wind energy sector and provided value proposition to its customers, which is proved by company’s market leadership status for the past 11 years and also through its installations of over 4,800 megawatts. Suzlon Energy has also been successful in earning 1,400 valuable customers.
