SEKO Worldwide Installs Solar Power System at its Portland Facility

SEKO Worldwide has completed the installation of a 31-kW solar voltaic system at its Portland, Oregon facility. The solar power system comprising 143 panels will provide power to meet the majority of the electricity requirements of the facility.

The 220-watt polycrystalline solar panel system started generating power in December 2009. The system generates enough power to meet the electricity needs of the company’s 33,000-square-foot warehouse and office at Portland. Portland General Electric buys excess electricity generated by the solar panel system through a net metering system. Net metering system allows the canceling of the electricity used by the facility from the utility vs. the electricity generated by the solar power system resulting in net deficit or credit.

The solar panels used for the system were manufactured by Eugene-based Grape Solar. The electricity produced by the panels is enough to meet the power requirements of 15 average households. The solar power system will enable the company to save about $600 every month on its power bills.

William J. Wascher, president and CEO of SEKO Worldwide, said the company was delighted with initiative taken by the Portland office to install the solar power system to meet almost all of the electricity needs of the facility. He added that besides being cost-effective, the system capitalized on major incentives.

William J. Wascher, president and CEO of SEKO Worldwide, said the financial incentives provided by local, state and federal agencies resulted in nearly 80% reduction for the installation of the solar power system. He added that within three years the company will achieve ROI as per projections.
