The Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin-store of Kohl’s Department Stores is the 500th location of the company to receive the ENERGY STAR label from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
In its commitment towards energy management, the company has saved close to $50 million in terms of electricity expenses by means of energy efficiency programs including the usage of 24 W metal halide bulbs rather than the 75 W incandescent bulbs and the implementation of building automation systems.
In the past four years, the company’s energy management initiatives have resulted in an energy efficiency improvement rate in excess of 20%. The ENERGY STAR designation is awarded to building designs that comply with the ENERGY STAR criteria. ENERGY STAR labeled buildings use 35% lesser energy than the conventional buildings and also release 35% lesser CO2 as well.
