Recently, Stop & Shop has installed solar panels on its stores numbering eight located in New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
These solar panels would help in reducing the energy consumption of these stores by a margin in excess of 7%. This project completion marks the company’s commitment towards reducing carbon footprint by 20% by the year 2015.
Alteris Renewables, Inc., a design-build renewable power firm, developed these solar systems. The total amount of electricity generated by all these 8 stores would amount to 1,759,572 kWh annually, offsetting CO2 to the extent of 1,264 metric tons. This solar project forms a part of Stop & Shop’s green solutions series that is being introduced throughout its 375 stores located in the Northeast.
