Southern California Edison to Cover 250 Roof Tops

Southern California Edison (SCE), a company committed to provide more electric power from alternative and renewable energy sources, has  selected 36 independent electric power manufacturers for  erecting 60 MW on the roof.

The company is scheduling to install 31 panels over roofs and the residue of five panels on ground positions in locations within Southern California Edison service area.

The roof top solar installation project, currently implemented by Southern California Edison is constituent of the 500 MW solar power project earlier sanctioned by the California Public Utilities Commission during June last year. The Utility introduced the contracts due to spirited request from independent power producers, located in the territory. On completion of mounting the required number of solar panels which will span approximately, an area of four square miles and 250 rooftops of abandoned warehouses.

Marc Ulrich, Vice President, renewable and alternative power in SCE, said the signing of contract with independent power manufacturers is a first important step in achieving the goal of an imperative distributed renewable energy generation solar program. He further stated about the efforts of his company in helping California in achieving its Million Solar roofs objective, and the intention of the company in supplying more green power to its clients when required without of the need of spending money on expensive constructions and power transmission facilities.
