LEEDCo Announces Developers for Lake Erie Wind Park

LEEDCo (Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation) has selected three companies for developing the Lake Erie wind farm. The three companies that have been selected for this offshore wind farm are Great Lakes Wind Energy, LLC, Cavallo Great Lakes Ohio Wind, LLC and Bechtel Development Company, Inc towards addressing all stages of this project’s development.

The feasibility study and analysis was initiated almost four years ago towards this offshore wind project. The developer selection signifies a major step towards the establishment process of this wind farm. The three companies bring with them the necessary talent as well as a broad expertise range towards commencing this exciting endeavor. This wind energy project happens to be the first one in North America to have fresh water resources.

The initial project would comprise five wind turbines with an overall power generation capacity of 20 MW. This pilot wind farm will be situated at a distance of five to ten miles from the shore of Cleveland. Construction of this phase is expected to get over by 2012, while LEEDCo aims at generating 1,000 MW of electricity by the year 2020 from lake winds.
