Iberdrola Renovables announced that it has planned to start wind turbine installation in the 80 MW project located in Mihai Viteazul, Romania.
The company will first install 40 wind turbines in Mihai Viteazul, in 2011. For the installation, the company will use the technology of the Spain-based Gamesa. The construction of the project is scheduled to be finished in three or four years.
Iberdrola Renovables has also planned to construct 50 wind power projects in the country, totaling about 1500 MW of power generation. This will require billions of Euros to be invested in the long run. In spite of the hurdles, the country is now poised to realize its potential for clean energy.
According to the Romanian Wind Energy Association, wind power industry in the country will experience a strong growth as projects totaling 650 MW have been planned for this year. Moreover, wind power projects of 5 GW are likely to be developed by the year 2020.
