Suzlon, an Indian manufacturer of wind turbines, has announced receiving an order worth Rs 865 crore from Hindustan Zinc, a subsidiary of the Vedanta Group. By the terms of the order, Suzlon will erect wind farms in four states. The farms will collectively produce about 150 megawatt (MW).
The company will construct, operate and maintain the wind turbines in the four states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. According to a spokesperson of Suzlon, construction of the four plants will conclude by September this year. The power so generated from the plants will be sold to the respective state government bodies under a long term power purchase agreement.
Vedanta is a company headquartered in the US and having business primarily in the mining and metals sector. Earlier wind farms constructed by it in Gujarat and Karnataka already yield about 123 MW of power. The new contract will raise its installed capacity to around 275 MW.
