Efficient OLED Lighting Revenues Set to Boom

NanoMarkets, a leading industry analyst firm, has just published a new report covering the OLED lighting market in which the firm predicts that revenues from OLED lighting products will reach $9.7 billion in revenues by 2016. Key Findings:

• In the general illumination market, what OLED lighting has going for it are low power consumption, long lifetimes and high luminous efficiencies. Also, thanks to the technology's diffuse emission and slim, lightweight form, OLED lighting makers believe that they will enable designers and builders to create aesthetically appealing lighting environments. By 2016 NanoMarkets projects that sales of OLED lighting into the general illumination market will have reached $3.4 billion.
• Backlighting of mobile communications and computing devices is also an opportunity for OLED lighting because of its low power consumption. OLED backlighting is also an improvement over other widely used backlighting technologies; it is far more efficient and longer lived than electroluminescent (EL) lighting and does not need expensive optics as do HB-LEDs.
