ENERGY GLOBE Award in WATER Category Goes to India

The ENERGY GLOBE Gala - Rwanda 2010 was attended by environmental advocates and top-ranking UN VIPs. This environmental gala served as the introductory ceremony for the UN World Environment Day (WED).

Guests to this environmental gala had included politicians of Rwanda; UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner; UNEP Climate Hero Luo Hong; and the environmental campaign REN21’s Vice President Peter Rae.

A project from India "Aakash Ganga" ("River from Heaven") won the coveted ENERGY GLOBE in the WATER category. This project aims at providing water to rural regions. The EARTH category of the ENERGY GLOBE was awarded to Mauritius "Seeds of Hope" which offers biodiversity and reforestation. The fire category went to Norway’s "Floating wind power stations". The Air category of the ENERGY GLOBE was given to a cost-effective carbon dioxide engine from Taiwan. Finally, the YOUTH category was awarded to an Argentinean school for its concept of self-sufficiency that offers students with nourishing food and educates them about sustainable agriculture.
