Skyline Solar’s High Gain Solar 1000 System Installed in Nipton, California

Skyline Solar, a High Gain Solar (HGS) arrays manufacturer for the industrial, government, commercial and utility markets, has announced that the company’s High Gain Solar (HGS) 1000 system has been installed in a novel municipal solar power plant located in Nipton, California. This 80-kW plant can provide around 85% of the electricity needs of Nipton.

The HGS 1000 system provides numerous innovations to the solar sector: the HGS architecture of Skyline Solar, in comparison with conventional flat-panel systems, provides ten times more power per each gram of silicon. The system reduces the required amount of silicon by 90%, through the use of cooling, concentration and tracking components; the power-generating components of this system are upgradeable; the Skyline Solar HGS 1000 arrays integrate single-axis tracking, durable reflector materials and silicon cells into a complete system; and the Skyline Solar HGS 1000 improves scalability and financial payback.

The commissioning of this Nipton plant signifies the strategic and rapid growth of Skyline Solar over the last two years. In September 2008, Skyline Solar secured financing for this project and later in May 2009, announced its HGS architecture. Shortly after that, with the assistance of the Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority located in San Jose, California, the company completed its demonstration plant. In October, Skyline Solar partnered with automotive supplier Cosma as a production partner and it increased commercial production.
