Yukon Energy Corp. has found encouraging results in its exploration for geothermal energy sources. The company has mentioned that it has been encouraged by the results from its preliminary findings on geothermal energy sources. Thus, Yukon Energy is actively pursuing alternative energies.
The company predominately generates hydroelectricity however has two wind turbines and backup diesel generators as well. Over the past two years, Yukon Energy has spent around $1.5 million towards finding geothermal power sources that are potentially viable.
Yukon Energy’s engineers involved in finding underground heat sources suggest that the Whitehorse region along with Jarvis Creek region are potential sites, with preliminary drilling tests having been done up to a 80° C temperature. The company is optimistic of pushing forward the project if they are able to get into the 100° to 110° C range. Geothermal projects have a high efficiency rate while being a clean renewable source as well.
