ACDA Signs Energy Savings Performance Contract with Ameresco

Ameresco, a pioneer in renewable energy solutions, revealed that it has signed an ESPC Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) with Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA), to change the prevailing fixtures and install energy efficient lighting systems in downtown Anchorage’s four parking garages. The DOE (Department of Energy) has funded this project via its Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.

This four month project started on the 1st October, 2010, has a capital investment of $589,000, and is to realize around 1,123,313kWh energy savings annually. ACDA would gain not only savings in the form of energy and money but also enhanced security and improved visibility.

Gary Gagnon, Director of Operations, Ameresco, declared that the company was delighted to assist Alaska in boosting their energy efficiency and creating energy savings. In tight fiscal times ESPCs permit struggling government agencies to preserve the already existing infrastructure, to decrease operation costs, obtain funds to make vital improvements, and fulfill sustainability goals by decreasing their carbon footprint, all this without encumbering dwindling budgets. This ESPC states that Ameresco would bear all the expenses involved in recognizing and mounting the upgraded machinery, which would lead to savings in cost. Ameresco would also display savings verification.

ACDA’s Parking Director, Rick Onstott, commented that they were honored to work in partnership with Ameresco, wherein Ameresco would retrofit the lighting equipments. The net result would be enhanced lighting, leading to safer garages, and also a cut in energy consumption. The superior lighting would also increase the overall rate of occupancy in parking decks, and bring in more parking transactions. ACDA also wanted to increase the life time of the lamps and the lighting fixtures, save on maintenance costs and enhance color rendering. Ameresco would furnish the designs, the engineering component, procurement of the equipment, installation and savings verification.
