AGI, Remcom, Raytheon to Build Wind Turbine-Radar Modeling Device

Analytical Graphics (AGI), a software applications and development kit producer for defense and intelligence systems and integrated analysis of space, is partnering with Raytheon Network Centric Systems, located in Marlboro, for creating a wind turbine/radar modeling tool, which would determine if the proposed wind farm would hinder the accuracy of some radar systems, especially those that measure weather conditions and track airplanes.

Remcom, a business partner of AGI, an authority on electromagnetic simulation, would also participate in this project. The system would be used by the US Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The huge blades of the wind farm turbines move with rapid speeds and return the Doppler-shifted radar signals that imitate an aircraft or a still tornado. This would lead to diminished performance by the radar and could make weather events or aircrafts nearly untraceable. The new system contains a commercial software platform developed by AGI, which models aircrafts, radars and wind farm objects with the environmental effects and the terrain too, in a three-dimensional, time-dynamic setting. A Remcom commercial software is used for depicting electromagnetic interactions. Raytheon will act as a prime integrator on the basis of its expertise in design, manufacture and development of radar systems.

Peter Sardella, Vice President of Services, AGI remarked, that the company was happy that Raytheon had chosen the precision geometry engine developed by AGI for assisting in the mission, which would permit radar farms and wind farms to exist side by side without hampering national security.
