Dow to Exhibit at the Green California Summit

Polyurethane carpet backing technology from The Dow Chemical Company is about much more than style and performance for commercial interiors. It's also based on a commitment to developing flooring solutions that contribute environmental benefits. This commitment is detailed in Dow's corporate 2015 Sustainability Goals, an ambitious multi-part program to address some of the most pressing economic, social and environmental concerns facing the global community. As part of the company's dedication to sustainable chemistry, Dow will be exhibiting at the Green California Summit & Exposition in Sacramento, April 7-9, 2008, Booth #933.

The Green California Summit highlights the latest policies that are making California a world leader in sustainability, along with the tools that empower these policies to succeed. In keeping with this focus, Dow offers innovative polyurethane carpet backing technology for architects, designers and specifiers in California and throughout the world to help address their sustainability challenges.

Polyurethane backing technology for commercial carpet combines durability and style with environmental benefit. The high-performance characteristics of Dow polyurethane help create a more durable, longer lasting carpet, providing extended life cycle attributes.

To further reduce its impact on the environment, Dow has developed BIOBALANCE™ Polymers to be used in commercial carpet backing applications. BIOBALANCE™ Polymers are polyurethane polymers that are manufactured with a portion of the polyol coming from a sustainable, annually renewable resource, which reduces dependence on petroleum-based products. In addition to rapidly renewable resource materials, Dow technology contains pre-consumer materials. Plus it allows the use of post-consumer materials as part of its technology.

Both DOW™ ENHANCER™ Technology for cushioned carpet and ENFORCER™ Technology for non-cushioned carpet are designed to comply with the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label standards. Also, by choosing carpet backing with Dow polyurethane technology, specifiers may qualify for LEED® credits.

Dow polyurethane technology can even be applied to artificial turf applications, offering enhanced performance combined with environmental benefits. ENFORCER™ Sport Polyurethane Technology helps artificial turf withstand tough wear and tear, with strong tuft bind and dimensional stability, even in wet conditions. Cushioned backing made with ENHANCER™ Sport Polyurethane Technology offers the added value of shock absorption. Unlike natural grass, artificial turf requires no watering, no fertilizers and no pesticides.

“Dow is dedicated to addressing some of the most critical concerns to the global community by developing technologies that not only address the needs of our customers, but also those of the environment,” said Scott Lowrie, business manager for Dow Polyurethane Floor Coverings Group. “Our polyurethane carpet backing technology is an ideal solution for today's demands for environmentally sustainable flooring options – without sacrificing style and performance.”
